Charles Bechtel

Charles’s passion for creating rock art has followed the natural course of petroglyphic art itself, carrying forth the tradition of dependence on and love of the animal kingdom.  As a zoologist and botanist, Charles draws from his lifelong experience, professional and recreational, of observing nuance and splendor in nature.  His art speaks to antiquity, evolution, destiny and the ongoing process of unity between humans and animals.

Charles and his family moved into the Great Basin in 2002 from the Midwest, and it is here that he has found both the inspiration and the primordial canvas from which to work.  The rocks themselves, eternal and indestructible, are the messengers of Charles’s carvings, that will serve to remind generations ad infinitum of the beauty of our environment and the efforts needed to maintain it.
