Marry Breeden

Marry is a native of Denmark. As one of four children, she was raised and educated in Copenhagen. She and her siblings always received colored pencils and crayons for Christmas. She was drawn to painting throughout her early years and loved to imitate the artists drawings.

Marry's first formal instruction came in 1962 in La Paente, California. The two teachers who gave Marry directions were Heinz Rozien and George Foster. Her favorite painters are the impressionists.

Marry raised three children and has four grandchildren ages 9-13. Painting was a welcome enjoyment for Marry as she spent her early years of motherhood without a drivers license. She worked in the Danish IRS, Banking and Mortgage Banking in the US. Now retired, Marry has more time to devote to painting.

Although she has spent much time in Nevada (12 years in McGill), her favorite subjects are vibrant and colorful and she has yet to paint the desert in its subtle hues. Flowers from her own garden, green lush landscapes and still life scenes are her favorite subjects. Her media are oil, gouache and pastels.

While she has had a minimum of formal art education, Marry's philosophy is that painting requires inspiration, time and energy. She does best when inspired by the sight of something that moves her at the moment.

Marry has adopted the philosophy of George Foster;

"Painting is honoring what you paint"
