I was born in Denmark where I grew up on a farm in Jutland. Art always interested me, however, when I declared I wanted to be an artist my father reminded me that there was a reason for the expression "starving artist", and I decided to pursue other career choices! Originally I started painting with watercolors because I wanted to be able to paint little sketches as part of my travel journals when I started going on extended kayak trips around the world. Since then I have completely fallen in love with this fluid and expressive medium – it's always challenging, and I am constantly learning new methods of expressing different moods and motifs. Color - nature – water – landscapes – flowers and birds inspire me. I paint both plein air as well as in my studio – sometimes I makes up scenes from my imagination, other times I try to convey what I see and feel. Over the last couple of years I have dedicated as much time as my busy life allows exploring and learning from many different teachers and mentors. I was an Artist In Residence at Mendocino Art Center, CA. in January 2009, which was the beginning of a sabbatical year for me, where I have been painting and traveling the world. I was accepted for another 4-month term as Artist in Residence at Mendocino Art Center in 2010. In the Spring of 2009 I spent 3 months traveling to Bali, Malaysia, Borneo and the Northern Territory of Australia to teach art to children at Humana Schools on Borneo www.borneochildaid.org, and l took workshops from Aboriginal Australian artists to learn from the source of the worlds oldest, continuous art tradition. After spending the summer of 2009 in Truckee to paint and digest all the impressions of South East Asia and Australia, I embarked on the Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage Trail in September 2009, traveling by foot with my backpack from St. Jean Pied de Port in France to Santiago, Spain. I walked 470 miles over the Pyrenees and across the Meseta to Santiago de Compostela! - Through beautiful landscapes, forlorn villages, spectacular cities. I have been in more churches, monasteries and cathedrals than I can count, and met wonderful, interesting people along the way. Had lots of wine, too many Patatas Fritas, and slept in bunk beds and on floors. I have been bitten by bedbugs, lulled to sleep by snoring pilgrims, and awoken by church bells. An unforgettable experience that cannot fully be explained in words, so now I am painting from the lessons of the Camino!
