Born in coastal Northern California. I moved to Lake Tahoe's west shore in the winter of 1971 then to Reno/Sparks in 1985 to begin accounting career in the construction industry. In my free time I enjoy exploring and developing my skills in photography. There are visually sublime moments in time which I am compelled to capture on film. This quest is a challenge I find very rewarding regardless of that particular day's outcome. In the art of photography there are several components which must be considered before a photograph, which captures the emotion of "that" moment, can be realized. Being very familiar with the camera, lenses, film is a prerequisite. The subject and composition are also essential, but, the one component which transcends all is the Light. In natural landscape photography choosing a place, time of year, even time of the day will increase the chance of capturing one of those glorious moments, however, it is certainly no guarantee. When it happens in that way it can be very satisfying but the big thrill for me is when I'm taken by surprise...the light will begin to take on an uncommon glow and I see a hue I've never seen before or a combination of colors so brilliant it takes my breath away. I am transformed - in another world, past the trappings of linear time - back to the source. Giclée or computer-generated prints evolve from my original film transparency as the final step of this creative process allowing me the control needed to present my image in a way that will, ultimately, evoke in others the emotion of that moment in time. |
