I am fascinated by color. When I first saw a book of artwork by Claude Monet, I fell in love with the idea of becoming painter like him, and exploring color to that magnitude. Impressionists use color to express a quality of light in the open air of any given mass, and breath life into it. That is why I am very fortunate to have studied with Lois Griffel of the Cape Cod School of Art. The color theory she taught me, was based on the color theory originated by the first director of the Cape Cod School of Art, Charles Hawthorne, who started the school in 1889. I paint because I love to. I think about it at night when I go to bed, in the morning when I rise, and throughout the day. I am compelled to paint and to share the beauty of nature and the splendor of color and light. Michael paints in oil in an impressionistic style, specializing in landscapes. |
