Raku Firing

 

 

 

Jill Brugler has a BFA at Northern Arizona University, and a MA in Ceramics at Arizona University. Jill is currently on the adjunct Faculty at the Western Nevada Community College in Carson City teaching Ceramic Sculpture. Jill is the resident potter at the Nevada Museum of Art, and she also teaches paper clay, figurative sculpture and ceramics there. At the V.S.A., (Very Special Arts) in the Lakeside Mansion Jill teaches figurative sculpture, and she teaches Raku at the Wildflower Gallery.

Jill Brugler will be the instructor, and she has extensive knowledge on the traditional Japanese form of Raku. She started pottery as a child in Ohio, and eventually made her way to Arizona. There she studied at Northern Arizona University under Don Bendel, where she completed her BFA and MA. Her teaching experience ranges from eight years on the Hopi Navajo Reservation to being a community college instructor in clay and sculpture at both the Eastern Arizona College and Yavapia Community College.

Raku Firing Clinic - In this workshop you will learn about the application of Raku glazes, and have a better understanding of Raku pottery. In addition, you will learn how to build a raku kiln, and how to load and fire a raku kiln, and do a reducing fire. Hand built bisque works will be provided for glazing and firing. Participants will need to bring a long sleeve shirt, a bandana, long pants, and wear closed shoes.
