Patty Melton started out her career at the Gray Reid Department Store in Reno as a fashion illustrator for ads in the newspaper. She then turned to working for an advertising agency and was an art director the California Chamber of Commerce. She also owned a graphic design and marketing firm for 15 years. Patty taught art through the Sierra Arts Foundation in the public schools, and was on the faculty of the University of Nevada, Reno.

The instructor Patty Melton is a versatile artist whose career has included marketing and graphic design, and is highly respected for her watercolor portraits. She is on the board of Scenic Nevada and Art Touring. Currently Patty paints commissioned portraits or watercolor paintings, and publishes a series of giclee prints of flowers and cowgirls.
